Performs a variety of patient testing and administrative tasks in
support of the clinical activities in the UNCHCS. This position has
responsibilities in the Central Processing, Bacteriology, and
Special Microbiology sections of the laboratory. The Special
Microbiology section consists of Mycobacteriology, Mycology,
Parasitology, and Sendouts. Responsibilities include but are not
limited to processing and testing specimens by using manual
techniques as well as total laboratory automation, mass
spectrometry, and molecular methods. As a member of our team this
candidate will also perform specimen processing and setup tasks,
Gram stains, rapid antigen testing, plate reading of cultures,
susceptibility testing, and organism identification. M(ASCP) and
SM(ASCP) certifications are also acceptable. - Hours: - This is a
dayshift position with a start time between 8:00am-10:00am. Start
time to be discussed at time of interview. - Schedule options
include: Eight-hour dayshift option, Monday-Friday with rotating
weekends and holidays. Ten-hour dayshift option, Thursday-Sunday or
Saturday-Tuesday, with rotating holidays. - *Other schedule options
can be discussed at interview. Responsibilities:
1. Investigates problems with equipment, test results, specimens,
and/or workflow.
2. May participate on teams or perform special
projects/assignments.
3. May perform teaching of Clinical Laboratory Science students and
Pathology residents and training of new employees. May serve as a
technical resource.
4. Performs quality control and equipment maintenance in the
appropriate laboratory.
5. Performs routine and less standardized test procedures which
includes special chemical, microscopic and bacteriologic laboratory
tests. Observes tests and reactions and provides data.
6. Prepares specimens and reagents, solutions, heat, or filters as
required.
7. Reports results to healthcare providers. Consults/confers with
health care providers regarding test results.
8. Reviews test results to ensure accuracy of report and timely
correction of errors.

Education Requirements:
--- Requires Bachelor's of Science degree. Must meet eligibility
requirements upon hire to sit for MT exam within 12 months of
hire.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
--- Must obtain certification within one year of becoming exam
eligible.
Professional Experience Requirements:
--- No prior experience required.
